T5 gearbox hole

My T5 gearbox has got a large (inspection ??) hole underneath it.
Should there be some sort of cover over this ?

I think you mean the hole in the bellhousing.
Yes there is sometimes a large rubber grommet with TVR on it in the hole, but most either drop out or might not have been fitted in the first place.
