I bet a few of you saw this one coming!

So where is the easiest place to pass a couple of wires through?
They didnt make it easy did they!

It might look like a nice car but when it comes to owning one you just want to give the desginers a damn good slap! Why make the boot so bloody narrow?!

I presume you mean from the engine bay? You can feed a couple of small diameter wires through the battery breather pipe, comes out in the nearside wheel arch...

Are you at the SELNWK (or whatever its called) meeting tomorrow?

I didn’t it’s far to messy. I wired my switch to one of the relay triggers, keeps it all in the cabin.

Cheers,

Simon.

Simon, what relay though and where?

I found another easy place to go through too. The hole used for the wiper motors looks an easy one.

What about a hole through the sealant surrounding the air duct (the big one that joins left and right footwells), or where the hot water pipes go in/out? Then you can reseal around the wire and you haven't done any 'damage'.

Thanks Griffter but I looked at all these places and found the wiper motor wire hole to be the best for that. I was originally trying to keep the new wires in the loom with the rest but now I realise that my mean destroying the rest of the car, its just not worth it!

Im still interested in where these relays are though.
I know there is a few near the fuse area but I dont know what they are for.

If you remove the fan relay, you can take the case off and connect the wire to the neg side of the coil, then all you have to do is ground it and the fans will come on. Saves running wires all over the place, but you will have to do a simple test to see if its pin 85 or 86. Should really be automatic in my opinion though, ok to have one for the day the otter packs up, but not for controling the fans.

My Griff is a 97 500 and has a relay and fuse for each fan. I made up some short extension leads for one of relays with a piggy back connector from one side of the coil through the switch to ground.

Both relays are activated by the single otter switch so you just need to get the right relay and it will also switch the other.

I remember a bit of trial and error but it wasn’t difficult to sort, I’ve got some pictures and a diagram somewhere, I’ll dig em out.

Cheers,

Simon.

I found a picture, the connection on the left has the piggy back black wire going to the switch. The red is the return to earth, I cant remember why I made this up red though I do remember it not working the way I thought it would at first. Any way its been on and working like this for a few years now.
