Oil Pressure reading fixed !
Discussion
Hi Folks,
Looking for some guidance on where to start looking now.
Oil pressure gauge was jumping about from 35's to zero for a while and has now remained at 34-45 when you start and drive or idle. ( climbs slowly when started and goes to zero when switched off with ignition on)
Have change sender, twice on the hope of faulty sender !
Do I have a duff gauge or is there an electrical problem.
Does anyone know what the voltage should be at the gauge when idle hot and running to identify of wiring of gauge.
If gauge, and idea who can refurbish.
Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you've changed the gauge sender? There are two senders, one (a switch for the oil pressure light) and the sender for the gauge.
The initial symptoms you describe sound like what I had and the cause was a badly fitting connection on the sender. The sender is on the underneath of the engine near the front. I soldered on a new one and have not had problems since.

I think you can test the gauge by earthing the wire on the sender. You should see the needle move all the way to the right.
Are you sure there is a problem? When you turn on the ignition, before you start the engine what does the gauge read? Does it start to rise as soon as you turn on the ignition or does it only start to rise once the engine is running?
You say it reads 35-45, do you mean that the gauge moves a bit in relation to the engine speed? Maybe it's just reading a bit high, Have you checked the sender is the right one for your gauge? There at least two makes of gauges and I'm not sure if the senders are the same.
Sorry no solutions only questions.

Regrettably sold my Griff now, and the bible went with it. I am pretty sure there is an earth for the sender, down near the unit offside at the rear of the bay. I had a problem that the oil pressure dropped to zero at anything over 4,000ish revs, but back up again if the revs dropped. It really freaks you out. Search is down as usual, but I am sure someone here can point you the right way. Good luck.
