Does anyone else get this.. when going over large pot holes / bumps.. a click click noise from what I'm guessing is the nitrons top mount?
The sound is quite high up and cenrtal sounding (actualy sounds to be from where my speakers are? or even boot lid but I've checked all that.. also checked the exhaust as well)... I've removed the ARB and just been for a spin.. but the noise is still there....
I don't think its the rose joints on the shocks themselves as they are new but more the ID of the mount bearing to the through bolt? strange thing is, it does not do it straight away.. the cars got to warm up a bit before it's loud enough to hear.. or could it have had to travel a distance before it starts?..

Can't think of anything else in that area that would cause this.. I would have thought if it was diff mountings it would be more power related.. not pot holes? any other thoughts?

Hi David.. they had about 20K on them when I bought them.. but the first thing I did was send them to Nitron to be re-furbished.. they are actualy 10 year old units but are quite mint and to the current spec..
They did replace a couple of the rose bearings but the rest were fine

How long ago is it since they were re-furbed is really what I meant as I had a similar suspension clonk that only happened once they were warmed up which ended with the N/S shock dumping all its oil on the garage floor with teh subsequent rebuild sorting the issue.

I believe they have a between rebuild life of between 3 and 5 years dependant on use.

Hmmm Could it be a cracked spring or bottoming out?

This is not as facetious as it may first sound.... if you avoid potholes and bumps does the sound disappear altogether?
I ask because a similar clicking on my ricer was remedied by undoing and re-torquing drive shafts.

its could more likely to be a top rear wishbone bush (especially if you have poly bushes as the ehuast manifold melts them),or possibly a worn balljoint

No and No.. I got longer springs so they would not get coil bound...and they are new so no issue there (you forgett.. I spend most of my time under the car so would see that straight away LOL wink )

Yes, its only on big bumps, rest of the time it's okay.. but do tell me more on the drive shafts as this in itself sounds interesting smile

BB
Its the back not the front and the bushes are fine...

Very common on the zed I'm afraid: click. Thankfully relatively simple to rectify these days.

Depending on the tone of the 'click- click' noise I'll go for either diff mounts or boot latch hehe

Well... I've tried jacking the diff about... and it appears to be okay... it moves about 1-2mm before its taking the full weight of the car.....
And I've also put masking tape on the boot latch and secured all the hindge bits...Coz your right.. it does just sound like the boot bits?
I did think about the body to chassis bolts on the back, but looking at the waxoil stuff on the joints.. thats not moveing ??
The tank is firm in place etc etc.. strange one rolleyes

It might be worth checking out the tension of the springs that hold the rear disc pads in place. if they've gone slack it will allow the pads to rattle about making a similar noise to the one you describe. Jack the back end up (leaving the wheels on) and belt the tyre with a rubber mallet to see if the noise is recreated.
David.
