Seriously, I get fuel fumes now and then, usually during a 'stint'.

Same happened in the Wedge, worse in fact.

Mine is'nt too bad but if its causing you concern, a trip to the mechanics could be a good idea?

yes it only done it after a good thraping !

is it a case of TADTS???? I was paranoid that my manifold gaskets had gone...but they have not...maybe a boot seal issue?????

I dunno I've never really cured it.

The later cars have two round vents in the bulkhead (against the fuel tank), supposedly to allow fumes out of the cockpit. My precat doesn't have the vents, but I can't say I've noticed any nasty pongs in mine apart from the smell of fear

Is it like Cat P, mine was the bodywork seams that run along next to the manifolds and stick out below the heat shield. The smell was the burning fibre glass and it cant be doing the structure much good.

I’ve used sticky back insulating foil to cover this area and that stooped my smell either that or I’ve just got used to it.

I had a strong smell of fuel in the Griff recently. Accompanied by a ECU code 44 (lambda sensor). Assumed at first it was a blown sensor and hence overfuelling one bank of cylinders to compensate.

Turned out one of the fuel pipes had a crack and it was pi55ing fuel - onto the starter motor , Very lucky, that could easily have caught and gone up.

(also explains why I got around 10mpg on a motorway run when I would have expected 25)

If it smells of fuel it probably is fuel and it is going elsewhere than where it should be - get it checked!

Had exhaust fumes problems with my very first Griffith back in 1994, BRG (J479 LHR), wonder where that is now!

Had the exhaust pipes lengthened by two inches with chrome extensions; problem solved. Never happened again.

Yes, I too had the same problem in my 4.3.
That was before I the renewed the boot seal and stuffed those two stlit type vents behind driver/passenger with sponge/foam.

Job done.

This was a suposed problem with early cars,Peter Beeches web site has an article relating to this.

Fernies invented a fix for the carbon monoxide build up which some cars were suffering,mine included.

Its not uncommon for the backs of the carpets and foam underlay next to the manifolds to get completely scorched by the heat.

People have commented that I've, ahem, got a couple of inches extra length compared to most
...in the tailpipe department. Could be why I've never noticed any exhaust gas smells?
