Wipers kept stopping/starting so I replaced park switch which I hoped would fix things, but now the drivers side wiper makes a clicking noise as it sweeps and seems to "jump a cog" so to speak such that the wipers eventually get entangled with each other ! If I remove the passenger wiper I can see that the driver side wiper returns closer and closer the the body at the end of each sweep until it fouls the bonnet!

Does anyone know if this means the wiper box on drivers side is knackered or maybe the screwed rod itself? Also does this mean complete renewal? I've heard to access this is difficult and dash will need to come out and maybe even a hole cut out to gain access!

Any ideas or advice greatfully received as to fix this is sounding expensive and with our weather wipers are pretty vital - the drive back from Le Mans this year when they packed up is not one I want to repeat!

I still havnt had the time to fix mine , had to drive all the way from Kent in torrential rain, with no wipers, nitemare.

On my car, when I turn them on the 20 Amp fuse blows, this fuse also controls the flash mode for the high beam .

Get some Rain-X - it's superb. If I get caught in the rain, I rarely need to use the wipers now. The water beads and just runs off.

Could it just be the splines where the wiper arm fits onto the spindle?

Hi Roy,
It sounds to me like your wheel boxes are knackered if the nuts on the spindle are tight.
I had the same fault and had to drive with only the drivers side wiper arm fitted to stop the two arms coliding.
There are two choices, you either replace the wheel boxes which I'm not sure how easy that is on a Griff or use the existing ones which is cheap and farely easy to do.
If you think about how your wipers work, they only rotate through about 120 degrees or so which means
the wheel box gear has only been worn along 120 degrees of its total travel of 360 degrees. This means that 240 degrees of its travel has never been used.
What I tried was to remove the wiper motor cover plate which allows the wiper cable to be removed from the motor and both wheel boxes. Remove cable from wheel boxes slowly and then check the cable for wear and tear. While the cable is removed rotate each wiper spindle through 180 degrees (half a turn) and then carefully refit cable applying plenty of grease to the cable as you push it home into the guide tube. Reconnect cable to motor and refit motor cover plate.
The cable should now be engaged with untouched gear teeth on each wheel box and should operate like new. Fit wiper arms and check they are centralised and don't overshoot at either end......job done.
Paul.
Ps Idea given to me by Adrian Venn.

That sounds like a great suggestion Paul. Many thanks. I'll give it a try at the weekend and report back! Cheers.
