Induction pipe temperature

Fitted the ACT smooth bore induction pipe last weekend and am now a bit concerned about the thicker pipe gathering heat from the nearby manifold and heating the passing air. I guess the old pipe did this to a certain degree but I feel that the ACT one will do it more, it certainly has a far larger thermal mass. I know there is a lot of air passing but air is not very dense so takes up heat fairly easily, and all the tuning books harp on about the necessity for cool induction temperatures. I was thinking of a simple ally shield in the area closest to the manifold, or increasing the size of the existing one that protects the otter switch. As the car is on a diet I don’t really want to add any weight (which the ACT tube has done already as it is quite heavy compared to the standard tube) What have all you knowledgeable people done ?
Bought a cheap digital temp guage from Maplin and stuck it in the air flow to see what is happening before spending any time and effort addressing a problem that may or may not be there. You may find that once the car is moving the air temp is not an issue as the air flow quickly reduces the temp.
it's a question often raised over the cone filters in teh engine bay of the cerbera also .
wjilstever teh car is in traffic they do pick up the hot air from the engine bay, but the std fitment airboxes and tubing also does this so I think there'll be precious little in it, as steve says once you're moving there's far more air going through the engine bay and through the pipe so temps are reduced again ..
you can try lagging the pipe as griffdude says, anythig you can do will help, just don't expect massive gains ..

Silicon is a reasonable insulator and the thicker the pipe is the more insulation there is between the hot air in the engine bay, and the cool air on its way to the engine. In any case, as Steve says, when you are giving it some welly the air spends so little time in the pipe that the heat gain here is very small. Bit more of a temperature rise during tickover in traffic but you aren't so concerned with lost power here. What is far more important, is to ensure that you have cold fresh air going in to the pipe in the first place.
