Brief power loss under full accel in 1st - battery related?
Discussion
Hello peeps,
I took the Griff out today for the first time in a few weeks and had a nice drive, except that under full throttle in first gear it reaches around 3000rpm then suddenly (and briefly) loses power, then the power comes back again only to disappear again a fraction of a second later... I was accelerating up the road with the nose bobbing up and down like a yoyo.
At full load in higher gears it's absolutely perfect (not sure about 2nd in hindsight, but 3rd and 4th definitely fine), idles fine, and nothing else seems untoward at all. No popping or banging when the power comes and goes. I'm not sure if I used full throttle in 1st the last couple of times I had the car out, but certainly it's not done this before. The fuel tank is almost full.
However, the battery was almost flat when I started the car today (only just started). Could the flat battery be sapping so much electrical power that it's affecting fuelling or spark or something? It's on charge now so I guess I'll find out in due course.
Thanks
Ruari

I had this issue a while ago too, and resolved in the same way as Hoover. I found this old thread with some comments that might be helpful.

Fixed!
All that had happened was the intake elbow had come detached from the plenum, but I've got a fat silicon one so it had more or less stayed in place and was still sealing well enough for the engine to run fine, apart from under accel in 1st when presumably the engine moved enough for a gap to open up and bypass the air flow meter.
Yoyoing front end now exchanged for 11s at the back end which is much more satisfactory. Thanks for all the suggestions.
