Anyone fitted bonnet vents on their Grif? Have looked at fibreon bonnet but after respray and other costs its a lot. Wondered if anyone has managed to find something suitable. It would be great if the vents could be opened or closed at different times of the year.

If you can do fibreglass, get a Chim bonnet and cut the vents out and fillet them into the Griff bonnet (I got an extra Griff bonnet as well). Thats what I got my nephew to do!!

That's basically what the Fibron offering is...

Talking of which, anyone know of the cost of the Fibron vented bonnet? (unpainted)

They were about £275+VAT in 2008. I personally don't like them but each to their own.

The couple of cars I've seen at the growl with the vented bonnet fitted looked OK to me, serves a purpose as mods go anyways

The bonnet is easy to change, so as reversible mods go - it's a good 'un.

I tried the vented bonnet with the aim of reducing temperature in the engine bay, specifically the induction temperature. I am not convinced it makes a lot of difference when on the move but it does slow the temperature rise when standing still and reduces heat soak after you have stopped.

As said they can be fitted using the standard mounts which just unclip (easier with two people) so they can be swapped at will. Another benefit if of interest is weight, I asked for a lightweight example which saved a couple of Kg.

Unless the design has been changed it fouls the brake reservoir cap. A simple fix it to abandon the level sensor connector and fit a lower profile cap.

I've got one of these bonnets for the racer (but need to get a scoop moulded in to clear the carb filters!!) and got a lightweight one for racing - unpainted you can see through it!! It should help with underbonnet heat though and we like the look, just one of those 'to do' things lol... Got to build a new engine first!!!

i used a peugeot cap for the brake reservoir, which clears by 3mm.....and fits the ford thread.

i ran my engine without a stat for a short period, and was convinced it ran cooler with the vented bonnet....but that is a bit anecdotal.

you can definately feel lots of hot air pouring through the vents when idling though.......

I also think the vented bonnet keeps under bonnet pressure when fast driving a bit better under control...so also a tiny bit better, keeping the nose down. (in theorie)

:-) the noise yes, I mean the nose of the car...euh say the front of the car (in theorie)
normaly a lot of air can be trapped under the bonnet and the faster you go the more air come's in...
so a bit more can escape, otherwise its want to push the bonnet up so to speak.
so less lift...?

Clive above had a smashing aluminium vented bonnet on his AJP Griff. Can't remember how it came about though.
