Griffs are fastest!
Discussion
Folks, just to let you know that my Griff and I have won the TVRCC speed championship 2012, beating some really tough opposition in all sorts of other TVR's. Thanks to everyone on here who has contributed to my dumb questions throughout the year as I have tried to make the car both work properly and be quicker - it seems to have worked.
We were pretty much on the limit at Castle Combe on saturday - sideways through Tower at 70 was a fun moment.
Yet another excellent photo taken by Bob Naismith cheers Jes

Awesome, just love the picture and the fact you did it in a Griff!People always ask why track the Griff and put so much power in it? Because its as much fun as any other TVR on the limit once set up right and looks the db.
If i had not of got involved in the Tuscan challenge i would of loved to of competed in some sprints in the Griff!
Good luck defending the title next year, i'll have to come and support

How many chims did you beat

Thanks chaps. There are many chimps in the championship, most of which are very well driven, but griffs were first and second (-: The chims did take 3rd and 4th in class B though. Something worth noting is that Matt was close to me all year and took the class B honours in his LS3 Griff, which it has to be said is a bit of a handful on the twisty hills!
Steve, Well spotted - both wing mirrors were actually folded in but the passenger one doesn't fold in as far as the drivers one! - after all it is a TVR with their legendary build quality.
I should be back at Gurston in the spring. I might struggle to get it down to your 35 second mark though - that is a properly quick time. I ended up in the field this year trying too hard and it took ages to clean all the mud and crop out of the chassis wishbones etc etc. I am sure you have been there.

Take care - cheers Jes

Peter, Most of my videos show the car sliding a fair bit. That's not a reflection so much on the tyres but more that i tend to brake quite late and chuck the car into bends at speeds that perhaps I shouldn't. I am getting over 1.2G lateral on the data logger on fast bends which is pretty good for a non aero car
Like you I use R888's. The grip is great on a warm day, as you know, but last weekend it was so cold that only the passenger side tyres warmed up by the end of the lap - the drivers side tyres were still stone cold at the end of the run!
I think R888's are fantastic tyres for sprinting especially for 1 or 2 short quick laps but the main problem I have with them is at fast and long tracks in the summer I push too hard and quickly overheat them. As an example mine are useless after 2 fast laps of Goodwood where they just turn into chewing gum losing all grip. I might be a quick sprinter but I wouldn't be much good as an endurance racer!
cheers Jes

I know you are right about the cold but I can happily stay out for 40 minutes enen in summer, the tyres become too hot to touch and the grip in fantastic enabling the car to creep across the track on bends under full power.
Do you not get an opportunity to warm the tyres, if not, I bet the R1Rs would be better for colder runs.

unfortunately no tyre warming is allowed at most tracks - we are allowed to spin up the rears at some hill climbs but im not a fan and all that does is bugger up the front/rear balance with cold/warm tyres.
Having looked at your profile you really should come sprinting with us, thats how I started - i promise that you would love it - its so much more of an adrenalin rush than track days
