Hi I have been making an Ali dash this year for my car Im now on to version 3 with a storage binnacle in place of the dash warning light and stereo. With revised warning light positions, different switches and Stack gauges.

I have spare 3mm Ali plate and an original dash as a template if this is of any use.

I am aware of a friend who is currently tooling fibre glass and carbon fibre dash boards + switch panels he is a forum member so I wont steel anymore of his thunder.

The above link is to an item I am selling on ebay you can see in the background my version 3 dashbord as it takes shape slowly.
Your link to the swirly polished dashboard is the same finish I hope to achieve.

Ive used 3mm ali sheet so no need for a backing and it is sufficiently flexible to form to the factory dash curve. Ive used a 52mm hole cutter for the smaller gauge holes and drilled and filed for the larger gauges. Im onto my 3rd and hopefully final version now.

I will be making an ali switch panel also will prob make that from 4mm sheet.

Its not as bad a job as you might think to remove the dash and switch panel and remove the gauges etc from them, you could prob trace round the dash outline without taking it completeley apart.

500 had larger dials than the precats, unless it's been modified since.
The curve over the steering wheel cowl is a different shape too.

This any good?

Should mention my clocks are an unusual size, but you should be able to use the centres to modify to your size. I think most cars have 80mm / 52mm clocks.

Isn't there some internationally accepted standard (like Cad-cam, but i'm no expert so don't shoot me...) that could be used by the cutter? And if yes, does anybody have this?

I am looking for the pattern for my LHD Griff 500.( but i suppose i could just mirror a RHD?)

Just make your own template from the old dash or make it up as you go along:

Try asking dnb IIRC he made a dxf of the griff for laser cutting? Once you have a dxf you can edit all the holes etc with suitable software like autocad or qcad.

I would still advise using plastic sheet to make trial versions, plastic is cheap & easy to work with, but strong enough to test insitu with dials pushed in. It's trickier than you would think to get the right positioning of the dials etc so they are visible and easy to reach. I think I had 3 iterations of my Chim dash which although looking just about the same felt very different when sat in the car, Dave Blades used plywood IIRC - not sure how many design iterations he went through before being happy?

Lower dash looks very Chimaera, despite claiming it's a Griff...
