Having a quick browse of the classifieds today it seemed to me the 500 prices have shot up. Maybe this is due to winter coming so dealers have to add a few k on to cover the slower sales or maybe it is just to do with the quality and private/dealer ratio of cars available at the moment. But, just out of interest - taking all 500's for sale regardless of mileage/colour/condition/year etc.

The average price is £23,494.84.

Seems very high - admittedly we do have very high prices (a few over 30k).

Is this a high tide for Griff 500 prices?

The reason I was looking at this was my insurance has sent me the guaranteed valuation to fill out and I wanted to offer comparative examples. The valuation is free (or nearly free) up to £20k but beyond that I have to pay a little more and do more paper work. Obviously I am biased but looking around for a mint condition very low mileage 98 in desirable colours looks like it will set me back over 20k now.

What have you guys put down on your guaranteed insurance valuations?

Seems to be plenty of good 500's about for around the 15K mark.

Where are you looking? There is one on ebay (classified ad) for 16 and a couple on auto-trader for 15-16 (then shoots up to 20).

I am discounting the blue one for under 10k (it looks very cheap) as it has been for sale for a while and hasn't sold. Not seen the car myself so can't comment on the condition or the reason it hasn't sold but something seems off. Having said that - looking at the pics it does look nice.

Exactly what I was thinking.

It seems that any good Griff approaching or in the 2000's is going to cost the buyer at minimum £22k, £23k, 24k....
Extra special examples even more.

Enquiring at David Gerald's recently after a service as to the ammount that I should insure my car for it would seem I undervalued it so prices are increasing.

Blimey! My 1997 'R' 500 with 32K miles seemed only worth about £16K a couple of years ago! And it's in factory condition, not littered with aftermarket bits.

Seems to be a lot of 500 SEs up for sale currently which seem to fetch lots more money (or at least advertised for lots more)
