Targa Top Cover

Anyone know what material was originally used to cover targa panel in on a 92 griff? I'm pretty sure mine is original and it needs replacing. However, the rear hood section is fine and will stay, so the new targa cover needs to match. At autohoods they do it in Stayfast Mohair Cloth or German Sonenland Classic Mohair Cloth. I guess its the former of the two?

I had a complete cover made from scratch, so I didn't need to match anything (my trimmer followed the old design)- I had spoke to AutoHoods prior to this and they where good enough to send some samples in the post.

If it's structually(??) sound, there's a product advertised on here called 'Renovate' which looks as if it restores the colour and adds weather proofing, other people have said it good, but it's best to check if it'll suit your needs.

Renovo wont do the trick as its gone all shiny and worn a small hole where it rubs against the fuel tank when in the boot. I always put it in the stowage bag but that didnt stop it from happening. I now have a nice pad of foam attached to the carpet where it rubs so it wont happen again on the new cover.

Out of interest, how much to get whole lot specially made? Was it cheaper than Autohoods?

If you're going to order one from AutoHoods and fit it yourself you need the match, if you are going to get someone else to fit it (a trimmer) they should be able to match it/tell you what it is as they use Mohair very frequently

Mine cost £400 fitted, there have been a few posts in the past re this, some have been more, some less.

If I can suggest you post asking if anyone has experience of same in your area, word of mouth/happy customer is what you're after - you might want to eventually widen your post to all TVR or all Pistonheads.

I can fully recommend my trimmer - based south coast, west of Brighton.

However, the info was kindly provided by someone else and the materials that Autohoods supply have now changed.

Incidently, were any two piece roof sections made by Leven in the end?

Not started yet, although I can confirm that the pre-production prototype half has been on my car, at Pistonfest, and all who saw it wanted one. Simon intimated that they wanted to have them on sale before the end of the year, so, watch this space!

Just to let anyone know who's interested. I just called autohoods and apparently now they only supply the material to be fitted by a trimmer. They no longer do the pre-stiched targa covers. Bugger. Anyone know where I might get one?
