hi all,

I Have just recevied a message from Clive F re: potential group buy discount for (at the moment) an order of 5 decat y pieces. I was quoted a price of £380 incl delivery originally but this reduces to £340 with a group of 5. Including myself there are three orders in place - if anyone else interested in buying one can you drop Clive a mail via his PH member page.

Thanks!

I've been in touch with Clive ref the y piece as I was interested. Apparantly you have to remove the precats as well before fitting the new y piece.
What happens at mot time assuming the mot guy is not a 'mate'.....do you have to reinstall main and both precats as that sounds like an awful lot of hassle ?

You should have no trouble at MOT time with just the main cat fitted. I do not have pre cats and have had no issues passing the emissions test. The only thing I do make sure of is, that I wire my cooling fans to be on constantly when it goes for the test as I am sure that when the fans kick in it changes the fuelling as you can hear the revs alter, and this used to mess up the emissions test.
I am going to drop Clive an email as I have been saving the pennies for one of these for a while, sounds like a good offer.

perhaps I didn`t explain it very well, for the mot you put the MAIN cat back in place, not the pre cats as well.

I have the Y-Piece already, and can recommend to anyone who isn't sure it's a good investment! I used to work for a company building systems for the Royal Navy - and if the welding on the stainless cooling pipes from our supplier was as good as his work, we'd have had a lot less problems....

Has anyone considered (I suppose it would be Clive ultimately) the possibility of some stainless manifolds to go with the Y-Piece - group buy too?

I'd be interested but don't you also need something doing with the electronics to run with this y piece? Re-mapping or something?

Are you sure? When I spoke with Clive some time ago, he said you need to alter something and it isn't just a straight forward case of fit the y piece and off you go.

Change the tune resistor at a guess from cat map to non cat map.

Yes you do....the fueling is changed by fitting a fuel resistor switch, this is supplied with Clives decat pipe complete with instructions...Apparantly an easy task

A benefit yes, but not essential, and exactly what tune is this unknown non-cat map then?

just a change from white resistor to green (same as precat cars), the white is in the switch as well.

Why do you need to do this please?

Using the same argument removing the cats isnt essential either....but there is a benefit so its worthwhile. It makes sense to me (IMHO) to correct the fuelling to a pre-cat setup at the same time....as there is a benefit

I have one of Clive's lovely y-pieces but I didn't change anything. The car runs spot on (starting, idling [hot or cold], pulls hard in every gear etc.) so I am not sure if I will be changing it. Having said that my pre-cats are still waiting to come out (funds building for replacement manifolds).

My point is ..... are you certain then that TVR mapped the non-cat map (I doubt it) otherwise your running the stock LR fuel map hence my query, if that's the case I would not recommend driving on this map as the chances are your car will be lean everywhere scratchchin worth at least getting the fuelling checked wink

I'm not certain that TVR mapped either cat or pre cat correctly...but taking the cats out will definitely make the car run leaner hence I would feel more comfortable with a richer mixture even at the expense of mpg....it will also help the engine run cooler. I agree though it is safer all round to check the mixture anyway which I will be doing

I had the first chance to have a look at the decat y piece received from Clive recently. Absolutely fantastic quality....i am really impressed with it. I deal with a lot of fabricators in my job and i can honestly say that the quality of the work is right up there with the very best of them. I just need to find the time to get it fitted now !
