i dont have one on the griff pre cat...

does this sit on the inside of the bulkhead, or the outside.

iv picked up a spare column, but it has a bearing arrangement, and the griff doesn't....wondering if i can use the chim setup, as ive a sloppy column at the bottom

It sits on the inside of the bulkhead. When I did my EPAS conversion I made up a stainless steel flange that goes inside the wheelarch. This spreads the load that the 5mm (IIRC) bolts put on the fibreglass bulkhead. No pics sorry!

Edit to add my pre-cat has a bearing in the original column - I've also been told that a Chim column is shorter than a griff one but am not sure if that's true.

I did something similar to black and green. I do have the old bearing and carrier so I can measure it if it would be useful to you. Will find pictures when I get home.

Not sure whether this will help or confuse you? My '97 Griff has a bearing on the inside of the bulkhead (which I can't see because of the carpet). On the outside of the bulkhead is a ring of 5 fixings, therefore I GUESS that the bearing might look like the TVR S in the link below.

it does, thank you

I found a bearing carrier on one of the dealer sites, but i just want to make sure the column i have will fit before i spend on a carrier.

Not the most helpful picture, but I do have others. They are probably on my old phone.

The bottom column is the standard Griffith one. It's had the outer removed, but shows the bearing sitting on the end, just in front of the UJ. (The spline pattern is Classic Range Rover BTW)

Do you mind if I ask what the symptoms were for you guys who changed this bearing?
I have a clunk on tight low speed turns which seems to be getting worse. Reading through this thread has got me wondering if it is this bearing letting go.

That's it. I forgot to say the old plastic bearing housing is fitted backwards on my car now.
