Elusive wingmirror tighening tool

Ok after having the door panel off, pulling the wing mirror to bits, I finally bothered to read the FAQ.

Bugger! Its just a grub screw, boy thats hard to find.

Any who, I take it I need to chop the end off an allen key (what size?) to get it in there and tighten the mirror up so it stop giving me a view of the road.

The allen key on mine was 3mm .I found it made it easyer to also put a kick in the allen key shaft if trying to tighten the grub srew with wing mirror in place.Another way someone mentioned was to pull back plastic cover drill through both parts of the mirror base and put in a self tapper, no more slipping.

Another way I've seen mentioned on here is to drill a hole through the top of the door lip parallel with the grub screw and an allen key can be used without modification.

I have used this method, its quite brutal but it works and you can really tighten it..... one word of caution is that you should line up the mirror approx so that you can see behind you and then the hole you drill is in the right place!

Don't waste your time with the allen screw trick, this only scratches up the paint on the door, the whole mirror will unscrew out of the door.
just lift the skirt on the collar and with a thin bar (screwdriver) through the column twist the mirror off,
reverse to refit making sure to tighten the grub screw (now easily accesible) in the same place.
