Hi guys

As this is a slippery slope chasing bhp and torque finance wise, I thought I ask your collective advice.
Spoke to tvr power at the weekend about a new camshaft and upgrading to bv heads which will get done in the coming month as the price is very reasonable.
So having already done remove precats, change to act decat y piece, carbon trumpets, thermal spacer plus the usual induction mods.
Have I missed any thing?
I Don't want to upgrade ecu yet so that's out at the moment.
Tvr power will supply upgraded large valve emprom chip

Any advise would be much welcome

Many thanks
Pete

If the heads are coming off and new cam why not go for an opened up ported inlet manifold and trumpet base.

Exhaust manifolds whilst off will probably need opening up a bit to match the heads. Or get some nice shiney ACT ones, they are apparently the right size. They tend to be smaller than the exhaust port on the head. Wont help with flow from those big valve heads.

New, cleaned injectors.

Like you say all thats left then is an ecu.

Its a very slippery slope, one which i am struggling to stay on top of. I blame this forum. hehe

I'd not buy the e-prom from Dom.. get Mark to set it up spot on when finished... loads better than a best guess...

Plenum? Particularly if you're going aftermarket ECU and ditching the AFM....

Hi guys

Thanks for all your replies

Going to ecu and plenum as is for now,
But cleaned or new injectors are a good shout, what's the difference between the originals and the green ones.

Also looking at 885 cam over the original 234 cam, would it suit the 4.3.

Am I right in thinking the 4.3 has a lightened fly wheel already

I dont think the 430`s have a lightened flywheel although stand to be corrected. Mine certainly doesnt seem lightened.

cam wise, they had a Kent 214. i got my new cam from Dom at Power and he recommended the Kent 218 for this engine rather than the original 214. He stated the 218 gave a better idle and smoother bottom end. I decided to stay with the 214 and dont have a problem with it.

The 4.3 in my Wedge retains the 214 cam, which I'm very happy with. I don't think you mentioned throttle body / disc. With 72mm disc, BV heads, JE 45mm trumpets and base plus a blended manifold (+MoTeC for fuel and sparks, with a locked distrubutor)and high flow injectors mine gave virtually 300 hp and about 320 torques at SRR with a failing head gasket.

Nearly 300 from a 4.3 is impressive I must say.
The by heads and new/uprated cam is the first stage for me in readiness for powers turbo upgrade and ecu next year.

As running at about 260 now I'm hoping for a little bit more say 20 ish with this work and the decat y piece.
May be a bit optismistic I don't know.

I upgraded my 4.3 to BV spec, but kept the original cam and ECU. With Dulford manifolds it made 280bhp eventually. Head work was about £1000. I think that was excluding fitting. And about 5 years ago.

Pete, that 'sounds' like it's going to be a very nice example, good choice. Will it be ready for the Neil Garner open day? Just had some head work, plus new cam and tuning on my 4.6 by TVRSSW and it's running a lot better now, so hopefully I'll get it to Neil's this year.

Hi davep

It should be back for the the end of feb, just in time for the open day at neil garner open day.
Did your new cam make much difference? What head work did you have done?

It's funny that we all start with a little tweak here and there, then it progresses into so much more
But fun striving for perfection!

Pete, the new cam (MC1), followers, etc. have made a big difference because the old one was knackered and the preloads and timing have now been setup correctly. The head work was just new valve guides and skimming - the BV heads have already been ported. No more overfueling or top end clatter. The bank account is a lot lighter though.
