Ok, the 400 is running smoother than ever since it's recent service at Peninsula. But..... Since the last two services there it has never been as powerful as it once was. My friends new civic type R is a pretty even match in the traffic light grand prix. Im sure its not just me getting used to it either. The power delivery is smooth and there doesnt seem to be any flat spots, it just seems to have lost a bit of 'go'. Its done 60k now so perhaps shes just getting old! On the other hand, perhaps it is just me getting used to it, but I would have thought a Type R should be easy prey.

Is there anything I can do without having to re-mortgage the house? I dont want mental power and I love the sound and revs of the 400 so I'd never swap it for a 500. I gather the 400 is pretty well tuned to the max from production but with newer technology and products arriving all the time I wondered if anyone had any suggestions? Incidently, on my Peninsual service schedule, when it says 'engine tuning' what exactly do they do?

Cheers

It's quite possible your cam is waering out. This is so gradual you probably won't notice the difference until you try the traffic light drag.

Taraka conversion is one idea - look on TVR Power's website as they do a drive in drive out upgrade for the 400.

Have you thought of a 4.6 conversion? I went in a friend's that I think had been done by peninsular. I've had something similar done on mine locally recently & it's now nearly producing what TVR advertise.

Has anyone here had any of the TVR Power 400 upgrades? What sort of power gains are we talking?

I'm not sure if they all do this, but when my cam was knackered, it had a huge flat spot at about 5k rpm, then it was ok from about 5500 rpm.

Turns out the 3 or 4 of the lobes were round!!

when my cam went it "felt" fine.

no lumpyness or flat spots, just noticed i was losing a couple of car lengths on the straight to another 500!

get it on a rolling road to see if its actually in your head...rather than on the road.
BEFORE the expensive mods start...

...then mod anyway!

Mine did this. A few years of servicing by Barnet and it began to feel slow.

What I eventually learnt was that the timing was being retarded as a quick and cheap work around for some pinking that they kept finding.

Since been solved by TVR Power who have created a stormer.
