pleased with power

Cheked the oil and tyre pressures this morning and took 4 spark plugs out coulour was black hmm and i thought it was running lean, well i found ht lead no 8 down on the manifold melted, i thought it seemed a little down on power, managed to revive an old one for now,
well got a few more miles to do before i can gradualy give it a good thrash, start to take it up to 4000 rmp and a little over a few more miles later 5000 rpm, i set the max today at 5500 with a coverage of 650 miles done. very pleased with the preformance
considering i have not had it re-mapped, all i have done is set timing to 6 degrees and running on 4 star leaded fuel, after having a good stint to 145 ish to get the good old adrenalin going private road of course
i done a few fast starts from stand still
very impresive seemed to have slightly mastered not to spin the wheels in all 3 gears, also in 2nd gear at 20 mph floor it and my it spins a good one, had a lot of fun today but yes but the handeling is appauling 120 its all over the place follows the curves in the road and very skitish are they all like this, could do with test driving a similar one any viwes on this ?

The ride and handling is not as refined as a modern production car but should not be as bad as you describe. I would check tyre pressures, geometry, state of the bushes and ball joints, and check for play in the steering system.

I’m a big splitter fan, though for the improved cooling it provides.
It is my understanding that high speed stability is also improved. It’s quick and cheap to fit, my be worth a try.

Splitter is on tyre pressures ok, polybushes fitted on new top arms shocks seem fine, mabey its just the sheer power of it
slight movement on the steering and it wants to turn.

The poly bushes i've seen doing the rounds are not up to the job. They make the suspension more compliant not less.
I've recently replaced a set of wishbones on a Griff that had these fitted not that long ago and they have disintegrated causing irrepairable damage to the wishbones.
As you know, the heat from the manifolds in this area is quite intense and i beleive this has an adverse effect on polybushes.
I will email you a picture.
I'm not against polybushes as i have used them on a Range Rover i owned and they are on my BMW. In both cases the polybushes stiffened things up.Getting the right hardness grade (shore) is essential.
