...so got stuck later than usual at work last week, left around 8pm by which time the Griff was frosted up nicely...

Opened the door and half the targa seal stayed stuck to the window, the other half stayed on the targa. Like having a bungee cord on the door laugh

Didn't worry about it too much at the time though - heading home in the dark, minus 3 degrees, new 888s not much use at all!!

Ordered the mk2 targa seal bits from Racetech on Sunday, arrived ok and fitted in less than an hour today. Great service from Racetech, i know they ain't cheap but the quality is good and they deliver when they say they will.

clap

No comment re vaseline ... but best stuff for seals is a little blast with some silicon spray. It makes the seals last longer as well as stopping frost etc sticking.

If you are using R888 all year you may want to read this :-

Yep - big labels on the tyres with same warning. It got below freezing after the sun went down, hadn't meant to be that late leaving and it was a gorgeous day so the lure of the Griff was too strong smile

Back in the garage now, tyres look fine, only a few hours exposure and less than 5 miles to get home so think I got away with it.

Have a spare set of rims with some old T1S s fitted, will pop them on for next few weeks.

I have used R888's summer and winter for 10 years now in all temperatures even in snow and never had a problem or failure. I rather suspect that the warning is Toyo being over cautious and protecting themselves from a potential law suit in this litigious age - especially as they are for sale in the US!

...think you might be right, although the tyre fitter at Camskill reckoned they were lacking some of the additives that keep tyres flexible at low temps. Griff has gone back into hibernation for now, roads round here just got a good soaking after 10 days of dry weather. Most of the farmers used the good weather to go plowing/muck spreading so lots of lovely mud on the road too frown

WD40 does the same job - spray onto a cloth and wipe around the seals. This works well on my Land Rover Defender which often gets wet, and this time of year freezes up.

Good idea - and the smell is slightly more in keeping - will put the vaseline back! wink

I use 888's 365 and I love them. Not good in the snow but did not expect them to be. My current set are 6 years old and still fine. This set are not on a TVR and live outside 24/7 and used 2-3 times a week (-10c to +30c). As said by others its just Toyo covering themselves. I would never run anything else.
