What happened in your garage this weekend?
Discussion
Hello All, I braved the garage at -1 deg last night and completed a few tasks. New cotton cone air filter fitted as personally I don't like the foam ones. It was tight to fit back with the reflector plate in place and now the back of my legs are stretched to France! Also marked up and checked the timing marks which are spot on at 8 deg BTDC. Also checked the vacuum and manual advance are working fine.
Anyone else brave the cold for some tinkering?

Well done for braving the cold!
It looks like the fan is rubbing the radiator in the pics, it appears to have worn down the fins to meet the rad tubes.
I sat my fan mounting frames on some small rubber pads made from an inner tube using a dab of super glue to keep them in place, it gave a bit more clearance and stoped everthing viabrating about.

Well spotted T1pper, yes, I did similar on my fans when refitting them after having rad recored. An easy fix for what could be expensive rad failure! It looks like the fan is rubbing the radiator in the pics, it appears to have worn down the fins to meet the rad tubes.

Managed to clean the inside of the head light lens's, which looks to have made a big differnce, and fitted some upgraded bulbs, at least the light looks white now rather than yellow. So pleased with that.
I've now given up as it's F*****G freezing and i'm going to sit in front of the TV with a beer or two and watch the Grand Prix. I think that sounds like a better idea.
Good luck to any hardy soles still out there.

This went on in my garage this weekend. Block walls going up for the basement workshop, when that is complete, beam and block garage floor goes in with two post lift as well as hole in ceiling to lower engines etc. to workshop below. Due for completion mid-June and then I can get down to rebuilding Griff No. 2 (sorry a bit facetious but I am very excited about my new garage)

Been busy all weekend fitting a new Emerald ecu. Its a fairly time consuming job but almost there with it now.Anyone else brave the cold for some tinkering?
As for the air filter reflector in your picture i have been pondering its advantages or disadvantages. I`m assuming its to help draw cool air from the front of the car. The air access slot in the body beneath the filter isnt the biggest and if you look at its location in relation to the openings at the front of the car there isnt any ram air effect, if anything probably the opposite.
Then there is the reflector thing itself. Mine was so close to the filter it probably did a better job of clogging the filter up. So i have opened up the hole considerably under the filter and came to the conclusion that i would be better off without the reflector, so its gone for now and i will see how i get on. Could ideally do with getting the filter to the very front of the car. A job for another weekend maybe. Mine is a pre cat BTW not too sure if things are the same on the 500`s.
Had 8 other chim tivvers over on Saturday for general gas bagging and tinkering.
