roll cage noise

Just had my roll cage fitted and it looks the dogs.
But...the thing vibrates like a tuning fork due to being fitted to the chassis, seems to amplify the road noise. To save me pointless experimentation, has anyone had a similar problem and found a way to stop the vibration? I thought about filling the tubing with expanding foam to deaden the effect?

Which version of cage have you got fitted? I have a griff in at the moment in my workshop with the rollcentre / tower view cage fitted, it made awful noises much of which was cured by geting the mountings tight, but the other noises appear there to stay

you might have to live with it ..

I don't know how you would stop noise getting into the bar short of soft-mounting it to the chassis (which probably isn't feasible) but foam padding round the outside of the bar stops the noise being transmitted into the bar. The bit nearest your head has the biggest affect, and is also the bit you would probably want padded anyway in case you nut it in an accident. Use proper crash padding not any old foam.

Joolz - Roll cage came direct from TVR and was fitted by my dealer. They say it is tight into the chassis, very tight - had a hell of a job and had to re-thread the chassis points(??). Although annoying, I can live with the noise as when the roofs down and the engines revving over 2k, I can't hear bugger all anyway.

Greenv8s - padding is next on my shopping list, thanks for the info.

you got any pics of the bar, I'm just curious as I've just fitted the factory one myself to my car. Also if you find anywhere that does decent padding I'd be interested to know, the stuff on demon looks a bit naff but I spose it serves it's purpose. If yours is the same as mine then there's a serious lack of space to fit the padding too aound the side of the seats at bonce level.

As for road noise, I don't think it's that bad but then again I've had the roof off every time since I fitted it.

Joolz - getting the kodak out and will email you a copy direct tonight. Thinking might get the bar covered and padded by local specialist (like the cerbs)who is also going to tidy up and edge around the bars into the rear parcel shelf.

Sorry if my discription is misleading it is a bar type over the rear area - NOT a full cage.

New problem. The support bars by the seats is located so close to the seat belt reels that the belts cannot roll up completely anymore. If I fit harnesses, can I take out the belts and still pass an MOT? If I leave them as is, would an MOT tester fail the car as the seat belts don't fully retract?

On the noise issue; I have a Factory roll bar fitted, this is the one that fits very snugly inside the roof and bolts to the chassis via the rear shelf and the seat belt mounts to the sides. With the roof on there is a fair amount of noise, most of which is I think coming from a very sad diff. I would be interested to know if your noise is of a whiney diff type, or otherwise. To comply with regs for Hill Climbing I have put some padding around the hoop above shoulder level and most of the rear support legs, this made no noticeable improvement to the noise. I asked the supplying Dealer who went into TADS mode. One poster on here suggested filling the bar with expanding foam but I don’t fancy drilling holes to squirt it in.

On the seat belt issue; My standard belts get stuck only if the seat is slightly reclined and fairly well back. For MOT I set the seat forward. I would think the MOT man has no business altering the seat position as it is “test as presented” I may be wrong here but most harnesses will fail because they can not be done up with one hand and those that can be are not very good as a harness.

Mine has harnesses and I left them in for the MOT. They passed it and didn't even mention the belts.
If you take the car to a TVR friendly MOT'er, I doubt you'll have a problem.
