Hi all.

Just replaced the coolant hoses on my 5lt pre serp Griff. All went reasonably well, ran engine till got hot air from the heater, fans cut in so switched engine off. Went to start it again and nothing. No instrument lights, won't crank, no central locking but the alarm goes off every time I try and crank it.
Fuses all seem ok. I have never managed to find the in-line fusible link and its not on the chassis from what I can see. If I do have one on my car and it has blown, would it give the symptoms I have? It's a 1994.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers, Stew.

As said above, there is a big one there.. the one in the engone bay is on the under side of the drivers side engine mount (the bit that bolts to the engine) if indeed you have one smile

My 1992 doesnt have either. None at all. frown

So you may have none like me one or both. Does sound like one of the main inline fuses though.

Are you sure you don't just have a flat battery?

Starting it and letting the fans run is going to take a lot out of a battery.

Mine is behind the fuse box. Took ages to find. Had to pull the fuse box out to get to it.

Just been out and tried it hoping it had fixed itself over night but no, still the same.

Thought I would disconnect the battery and leave for a few minutes and reconnect. All back to normal. Don't know why it did it but had enough so going to go drive it and hope it starts. Effin thing is doing my head in lately. All part of the fun I guess!
Thanks for your help.
Cheers, Stew.

If you suspect the battery, put a meter on it then turn on a load and see if the volts drop. Load could be head lights or similar. A battery can hold 12V with no load but still be shot.

Recharging and then disconnecting the battery for a moment, reconnecting and then a restart sounds like you may have reset the immobiliser?

Thanks Rob.

Will double check the battery at the weekend when I take it out to tidy up some wiring issues I have found. Not related to the fault but now I have seen them I need to sort them out.
Did think it may also be alarm related David, so will keep an eye on it and if it happens again a new alarm may be on the cards. At least I know what to do if it does play up again.

Thanks, Stew.

Just found the griff will not start, full charge, hear the fuel pump run up but nothing in the way of a crank or turning over.

Confused since I have not had the battery off or anything and she has been running.

Maybe it's "bang the dashboard" time, could be contacts in the immobiliser.

Violence worked.

Well pushing the in-line fuse back in, no idea how it came loose, apart from normal vibration that is
