I have seen a couple of GoPro videos where people have achieved a good angle by attaching the camera to their roll cage behind the seats. Unfortunately I do not have a roll cage and I thought it would be a pretty expensive option just to get a good camera angle.

I have been looking at various options to replicate this angle. The closest I have come so far is to mount the camera to the roof of the car using the suction mount...

Not bad but, apparently you are not allowed suction mounts on track days and no good when the roof is off.

I have looked at various options and I think I have found a good solution using a caravan cargo load bar and a Go Pro bicycle handlebar mount:

I would have ideally liked it a little higher, I might see if I can raise it up a bit. I will test it out fully later this week.

Hi Matt,

Love the 'Splicing' someone has been practising the Editing software...!?

How many Go Pro's do you have, or is this clever Editing?

Great idea about the internal mounting location, I am going to give this a try!

Steve

Hi Steve,

Only one GoPro at the moment. I would like another GoPro and was looking at buying a GoPro 3 but not impressed with the fact there is no Skelton case which protects the lense and it does not come with an external mic connector. Apparently you can buy an adapter lead but this costs more £££

The second video is spliced together from many different runs all with the camera in a different location. I am not sure i would refer to it as clever editing, piss poor editing yes! Where each angle is from a differnt run the sound is not quite in sync and the speed is not quite right, it does however showcase a number of different angles.

They're a couple of really good Griff vids, best I've seen on the tube for some time. Almost feel like you're there!

Nice idea. As you know I have the cheap version. Two bits of wood bolted together attached to the head rests. Wedge a camera mount between hehe

In the first video (2nd run) you went the wrong way rotatespinlaugh

Consider the longer the vertical arm supporting the camera, the more it will suffer from vibration. A short support is ideal.

Maybe if you put the rear part of the hood up you could use the passenger side strut as a base? Mine lock pretty solid when they go over-centre.

On a slightly related note, I just bought a suction cup for my GoPro but am a little nervous about using it on the road - have you used one and does it hold ok?

That looks a good mounting option Matt, will have to have a look in the Tamora.

I have bought the hero3 multi connect cable so I can plug in an ext mic and power the gopro together...

I still think your version will give a slightly better angle as it goes. Unfortunatley do not have a saw, a drill or any discernible talent so replicating yours was ruled out and I had to make to with off the shelf parts.

I don't doubt that was the wrong way round. I was just looking for cones and driving around them badly.

I am going to test to see how much vibration I get from the setup as it is now. If it is not too bad I will add one of the spacers that came with the go pro, this will raise it up by about an inch. I agree though long arms are useless especially in a car like the Griff.

That is not a bad shout. I will give that a go and see what angle I get with the bike mount on the strut. Cheers

Yes, I have used the mount that comes with the Go Pro 2 Hero HD Motorsports edition.

Here is video shot from it:

... and here is it attached to the side of the Griff

Hi Matthew, bring the setup along to the next meet at the Forresters, I may be able to make something for you to raise the height, or advise on a photographic accessory that would do the job! All the best, Pete

I will let you know. It is quite close to the missis' birthday so I might struggle. If not I will be at the next evening pub run.
