I've recently bought a Griff - it's a 1999 500. A number of people have asked me how much it would have cost when new. I haven't got a clue, and was wondering if anyine else knows?

My Griff cost £39,850 in 1998. Basic plus Starmist paint and full poof-pack (power-steering and air-con).

Okay. I was wondering about getting aircon added - how have you found the aircon in your car?

For the cost, I wouldn't bother. I had a larger condensor fitted to mine, and when in tip-top condition, the system managed to supply chilled air to the cabin. But if you are used to the quality of air-con systems in modern cars you will be disappointed.

The slightest leak in the heating hot-water valve meant that there was too much heat in the system for the air-con to overcome; I had it replaced several times.

The other problem is that the air hoses that supply the cabin in a Griff are only about an inch in diameter, so there simply isn't the air-flow capacity for the air-con to be effective.

Condensors should be cooled, unless your fans are on, it will not be unless you are above around 50 mph. Much better air con with half speed fans when going slow, it will also reduce inner wing temps and under bonnet temps.
