Current state of the Griff 'Market', are they selling?
Discussion
there is always a theory, that if you put the price high, and can't sell. then you have an excuse for the other half.... so you can keep it..
People can get very fussy on colour trim, etc and not that much choice about at the moment, 4.0 cars seem to stick a little, not sure why, because they are fantastic aswell, perhaps those looking at pre-cats, think I might as well get the 4.3l version if a nice colour combo shows up.
lots of people I think, keeping them now... (me, nearly 15 years since new)

I’m interested in this to, it’s very difficult to know what prices actually are I know what people are asking but are the prices being met? I always said I’d sell my pre serp 500 when we had kids and have been telling the wife yes I’ll sell it ‘this summer’ every year since our daughter was born and she’s 7 now !!! we’ve got a 4yr old son now to and I still keep saying I’ll sell it but never quite manage to go through with it  but I think this summer maybe it’s last we us and I’m hoping it’s solid original chassis (it was supplied to a Brit in Cyprus from new so no rain or salt) plus the fact I’m essentially it’s second owner (of 14yrs ) plus it’s Italian red with cream full leather should make it quite desirable or maybe I’ll just keep it 
I'm a buyer, whereas most posts are from potential sellers. I have just committed to a car - so the simple answer is yes, there are sales out there, but not a lot...I have no idea how prices have gone in the last say 2-3 years, as am new to Griffs, so maybe there is a view that prices are buoyant, and 'mine must be worth more than it was in 20**'. From looking constantly at ads in last few weeks, my views are:
There are a lot of lets say robustly (high) priced cars. Of course dealer cars will always be more.
Everyone seems to think a 500 is worth £15-20k....maybe, but not if its not selling!
Location can be a factor, in terms of travel time to view
How can anyone expect to sell a car with absolutely no history?? Believe me its true, I found one....
On a general point don't necessarily think that lack of sales is a TVR or Griff issue. There are many marques and models out there with static'ish sales, particularly in the under £25k range. The only real boom in classics is top end collectors stuff.
The simple answer is you just don't know until you try (to sell), but price it keenly if you really need to move the car, but not ridiculously cheap as that begs the question 'if it looks too good to be true, it usually is'!!

I think the market is slower than normal at the moment. No doubt will pick up now the sun is out and temperatures are above freezing. I think Griff prices are consolidating at a slightly higher level than than the last couple of years which may lead to slightly longer sale times....
'Our' Griff has been in the classifieds for a month and not a single viewing - OK Crystal Topaz is not everyone's colour but I believe is correctly priced and is just a case of being patient...
Sam - there is another Griff just come on at the same price as yours so you have some competition.
Coincidentally all 3 of our cars have had recent rebuilds/hotter cams by V8D....
Good luck. Paul.

Interesting reading, I'm in the market for an early car, not much seems to be shifting so wasn't sure if it reflected the state of the market (being new to TVRs) or that these cars are pretty niche and take a while to shift, I'm not that fussy on colors etc so that should make life easier!
I wonder how many cars change hands without being advertised.
Have never tried to sell the Griff but have had a few people ask if it is for sale. Previously had a V8s, various MGs, a Stag, and assorted other stuff, sold all of them fairly easily when the time came without advertising. Usually a friend of a friend knows someone who would like it.
Just because a few cars seem to remain advertised for ages doesn’t mean others are not changing hands, it is I suspect the same with Houses and Jobs.
