Speed humps

Earlier today I scraped the bottom of my exhaust when driving over a speedhump in Basingstoke - no damage done but damned annoying, particularly as I took it carefully? Anyway it got me thinking, is anyone aware of any maps which detail where speedhumps are located? Same could be said for speed camaras as well, actually.

Is there any recourse on the council if you rip your exhause off/open on one of these damned things ?

Nottingham is full of them and they suddenly appear on routes you occasionally take so you can't always avoid them.

I belive but do not quot me on this their is a maximum hight for these and i believe you can claim if the hump is over this maximum hight, as i have very little time these days, i wonder if someone has dammaged their sump, this would be well worth looking into , any solicitors out their.

75mm I believe, but that still fouls the splitter if you have one. The main access road for me is now closed to the Griff because of the speed humps.

I've been out and about a fair bit today - I've got four kids and when you take one out the other three kick up until you take them out as well. At 11am I was probably with my 13 yr old son (dropping something off to a friend). Where abouts on the Basignstoke Ring Road did you see me?

I was coming back from Swarraton,where I hads bought a winch for my Land Rover.I was on the A30 heading towards the the A33.I did my best to catch you up,but I was in my diesel transporter so not much chance.
Nice car steve it would be good to see you up at the Berks club meet @ Three Mile Cross.Has your car still got standard exhausts,I wound my window down to have a listen to the burble .

I think I know where you saw me - I would have been with one of my daughters (I think). No I've not got a sports exhaust, but I plan to get it added next year. I'll keep in the loop regarding meets in the area and I'm sure we'll have a beer sometime!

I think it was your son in the car Steve.My friend can take your pre-cats out and sleeve the exhaust for £200 cash ,did mine and now sounds great and has a bit more go.

Getting back to the speedhump issue, I belive the maxi,u, height is the same as a curb stone, therefore it should not be higher than the curb.

You also need to pay particular attention to your sump plug. When it is tightened, make sure it is the flat of the plug that's parallel with the ground at the bottom. If you have the point facing downwards, it sits lower than the bottom of the sump, and if you catch it on a speed hump (as I did a few years ago) it will loosen the plug (since it's on the hear side), with potnetially disaterous consequences!

MIne came undone and dropped all the oil, fortuantely at low speed and I managed to kill the egine before it run out. You may not be so lucky!

Hi James. I've been to Le Mans for the last couple of years, but next year I won't be able to make it unfortunately (for reasons to complicated to go into). I'm off to the State for a couple of weeks so I won't ne able to make the next Berks meet, but I'd like to go to other ones.

I took my splitter off going through Eton the other day they have some huge speed humps made out of granite sets.Iam usally ok if I come to a complete halt, but I still doing about 10 mph,but its worth it just to have a blast through Dorney Common-just look out for the cows.
