Somehow I have only just noticed a largish round black button just above the driver's door handle (interior). So far can't tell exactly what it does. . .

Prepared to be suitably embarrassed wink

Do you mean the button under the dash left side of steering wheel ,, that turns off the Dash instrument lights.

not sure why you would turn off the instrument lights when you have the driving lights on ,,

TVR's have character...

Try the RHS of the steering wheel in roughly the same location as the dash lights cut button and do you have a twisty knob there?

Boot release is LHS of the steering wheel on the dash, well it is on mine. No, RHS of the steering wheel under the dash about knee height.

They moved the boot release on the SE... Do you have a picture? I have a circular hole cut in the dash fibreglass on mine, with leather covering it. It would be most convenient to know what switch would fill the hole so I can free up a bit of dash panel space for something.

People have suggested it's for eliminating the reflections from the instruments in the windscreen when you're driving across country....
..... however the more boring and likely explanation is it's so you can turn off the instrument lights to reduce battery load when you're parked at the side of the road with your sidelights on. (As the highway code still requires you to do in the hours of sunset/sunrise if parking on a road with a speed limit of more then 30mph)

Top tip, make sure MOT guy knows about it, know people have had failures due to mechanic knocking the switch with knee without knowing.
