Good evening chaps and chapesses.

Have you installed an ARP stud kit on your RV8 Griff?

If so I just wondered what torque you might have used on the nuts?

Typing this in from scratch will avoid any cross-posting malarky, I would hope.

Thanks!

From memory, 30, 50 & 80 torqued in 3 stages.

Make sure the studs aren't tightened hard into the block.

If anyone has any pics of the installed studs please post them as I'd like to see how much thread sticks out after torquing up.

Please book up an appointment with Specsavers as it is clearly a stud with an Allen key head on it!

Ah, my apologies, you meant the exhaust bolt and I was referring to the head studs!

Doh.

No its the head studs but don't worry I can see one in the picture. Looks like the number 2 cylinder and looks like maybe 5 turns of thread are sticking above the nut.

Thanks! Nice clean engine BTW ;^)

Now you're going off-topic - I can't see any more head studs there! And stop showing off ;^)

What about re-torquing - did you re-torque and if so after what mileage? Did you re-torque hot or cold?

If my few penneth is worth mentioning here goes: Most of the studs on the exhaust manifolds are fairly difficult to get to, I found with a couple of special tools I was able to remove and replace my manifolds reletively easily, but, as far as trying to use a torque wrench on all the bolts, forget it! All I did was tighten up to a good 'tightness' with the spanners, then after a couple of hundred miles I went around all bolts again. I did find a couple were not as tight, whilst others just needed a slight turn. You would not be using great torque' on the aluminium heads anyway. I did use the superb, NORDLOCK locking washers, they are well worth the 36p each, also I went for standard head plated steel bolts.
