Anyone who has had seats out tell me if there is anything more than a couple of load spreading washers under each corner?

When I got mine years ago the seats had just been out and it was guess work for me putting them back, but I always feel too low.(maybe I'm a short arse)

Was thinking of making some 1 inch spacers to give me a little more height?

The mounting brackets are 1" box section bolted to the rails, that's it.

Mine has some inch and a half tubing under the front of the runners to tilt them backwards, I'm going to raise the pass side front and back for my wife/son and play about with the drivers side, even at 6'2" I still feel too low down when driving.

I fitted Tuscan seats prior to having them trimmed, I'm glad I did because as nice as they look I felt to high up and the increased size compared to the original Griff seats reduces the rearward travel.

Pair of green grey Tuscan seats anyone?

Thanks, that explains it as my rails are just bolted direct to floor with some washers.

Anyone got a pic? Gonna have to make some it seems.

The standard seat mounts are appalling. They are literally four holes drilled in the fairly thin GRP floor with, if you are lucky a washer of sorts underneath although there is not a lot of room for anything of a decant size on the front bolts they are located in a U section.

Some people have welded steel bars across between the chassis rails to get a decent fixing. Another solution is to reinforce the GRP around the fixing holes inside the car and make two flat steel bars to bolt front to back on the underside in place of the washers.

My passenger side was just bolted to the floor but the drivers side had extra box section tube under the front mounts (not on the rear mounts) - the seat base is therefore angled backwards (which I actually prefer). Also both seat bases are drivers side (according to the felt tip writing on the underside). Typical random TVR build approach really.

When I put them back in I used square steel plate washers to re-enforce the fibreglass on the inside and steel flat bar for the underside.

Might have some pics from when I did my carpets, will have a look tonight.

Update on this, figured it might help some one.

Did the mod on sat, in the end went for 30mm sq 3mm thick ally box section. From ebay, got them all pre but for less than a tenner.

excuse the state of the steel runners, I don't have a garage to keep seats out to re paint. wink

Would not work, fronts are 1 inch lower than back as std, and only the bolt points were taking the load before there is a much larger contact area than original.

I also will have Tuscan seats in my Griff-project, but i let them retrim them without the cushions where you sit on, i like it to sit low and feel everything... Might also be a solution for you?

Infinity thanks for the idea. I have sat in a Tuscan seat with the seat cushion removed, as you say it would need additional upholstering.
Another issue with Tuscan seats is the fitting of a roll bar, the fitting method with the bar being secured near to the reel of the seat belt reduces seat base adjustment for taller people, the way round this is to fit static race belts and typical TVR your left with an ever growing list of considerations and modifications...

i am toying wiv idea of using gearbox metal/ rubber mounts to provide a little more comfort and better height

Needs separate bolts bonded to each face so that rubber acts as vibration and shock absorber, plus strong enough not to tear with lateral forces
