tight steering
Discussion
My steering is reasonably light (for a 92Griff with no power steering) at the start of a journey, however it progressively becomes heavier the further I travel. At about the 30 miles distance you have to consciously return the wheel to central when coming out of both left and right bends. Anyone encountered this problem before?
No disrespect to your check, but this is still far and away the most likely suspect even if you could not find a fault (presumably it had cooled down when you check it?). Otherwise I would try jacking the front wheels up carefully by a jack on each lower wishbone (with a load spreader to protect the wishbones) to confirm that you still get tight steering without the drag of the wheel. You should be able to turn the steering by finger tip with it like this, and any friction will be extremely obvious. Then 'just'
a matter of disconnecting parts to see where the friction is coming from. If I was a betting man I'd put money on it being the steering UJs though!

Make sure you measure the overall lenght of the UJ as they do vary, I should Know had to wait about 5 weeks to get mine, It was the shorter one and an Upper, which is mostlythe longer one
