Out for a drive last Sunday in my pre-cat 400 and the red led dash light came on I assumed it was the oil light yet the oil pressure gauge showed good pressure. I convinced myself it was a duff pressure switch so changed it, no difference.... Then searched this forum and found a thread about the yellow oil warning light doh!
And no I didn't refer to the handbook.

Sure enough unplugging the oil warning sender extinguished the yellow led, and the battery voltage measured 12.6 volts engine off and 12.3 volts engine started. I had a fresh alternator so swapped this yesterday and with engine started the battery measured 14.3 volts and the yellow led was extinguished.

I thought I would share this in case anyone else has a sleepless night unnecessarily worrying about there engine like I did.

I'm going to swap the red and yellow led's around because in pretty much all other cars I've experienced the oil warning light is red.

I assume the old alternator was duff as all is good with the new one fitted, can the 100amp fuse cause the same fault?

No not on the pre cats. One less thing to worry about.

Great thanks for that, I will get back to worrying about under bonnet temperatures and a suitable type of bonnet vents...
