I'm sure these subjects have been covered before, but 'Search' still isn't working - hang on, it seems to have disappeared as an option completely now. Surely it's not rocket science to make it work?!

Anyway, back to the subjects:

1. I'm not convinced by the power steering on my '98 500, I'm thinking that I'd perhaps trade more effort for more natural feeling steering. Is it a big job to take it off? I'd need to source a new rack, but anything else?

2. What's the best tried and tested soft rev limiter for the 500?

Thanks.

You would also need a different lower steering column (longer?) and a pulley idler bearing and mounting plate to fit the existing pump housing.
I've just converted my car to power steering and am not convinced I've done the right thing either.

Thanks HH.

Can no-one offer advice on a rev limiter?

I didn't mention rev. limiters because I don't know the first thing about them, in fact I thought that one was already fitted by the factory....perhaps not.

A Google search suggested a good place to start might be here, hope it helps.

I believe that there is a standard one, but it's set at higher than the recommended 6000rpm. I find that my car revs so quickly in the first 3 gears that it would be easy to exceed that so I'd like to fit one so that I can limit the revs to, say, 6200.

Mine is set to 6100, some are set to 5900, some are off. It may be worth getting someone to check whether yours is on or not?

The 14CUX has a programmable rev limiter built into the fuel chip- but its far from soft cut- it just bangs all the injectors off when you hit it, like a brick wall, its pretty dangerous if you are overtaking when you hit it. It limits at around 5400 rpm on stock Range Rovers, and up to 6200 rpm on the TVR chips, although there does not appear to be a standard, as with most things TVR. If it worries you a simple Rev limiter across the coil connections. Ive run an Armtech 15RL02 for some years without issues set to 6200.
