Simple, which is best?!
Currently have Nitrons which need replaced and can't afford a new set.

Thanks.

Can't the Nitrons be rebuilt?

Can't they be overhauled?

What are they, single adjust? How old are they?

They have been sent away and are in a poor state and can't be rebuilt sadly.
Think they are about 7 year old.

They have offered 10% discount on a new set but still out of budget.

That sucks, 7 years old and now throw away? I bet that's not budgeted when all these what shock threads get heated, not as if they are budget items to start with.

This, unless you have done ten and tens of thousand miles?

Many cars will be on less than 20k miles in this time, which is a bit off message for this particular vendor.

They could well be older.
I've had the car over 5 years and they were on when I got it.

It's having a fortune currently spent on it and this was another kick in the teeth!

Have they been rebuilt in the interim according to nitron's own advice.? To be fair many dampers would be u/s after 7 years .. people forget how unreliable the std tvr dampers were, many leaking on the shelves of the parts department before even getting fitted to a car! and they were £200/corner 15 years ago ..
but in answer to your question .. protech all the way.

We had a 6 year old daily driver set rebuilt so sounds wrong to me. £50 + VAT per corner plus we upgraded Eibach springs at about £60 each, but they are great and cheaper refurbing than a new set.

Hexham sent them away and have reported back saying u/s so can only go on what they say.
Plus I trust them completely.

They originally quoted 100 per corner.
So £600 for a set of Protech or Gaz doesn't sound to bad.

How many miles have you covered on the Nitrons?

Considering how much Nitrons cost that seems pretty poor return.

Protech seems to have a good reputation on kit cars. The Ginetta G40 Junior race series use Protech.

For road use the Pro-Techs are hard to beat and easy to adjust.

There after sales service is superb too!

Well some good recommendations smile
Easy to adjust sounds good, I like it low.
Heard mixed reviews on Gaz but heard nothing about Protech.

I have the opposite story with my Gaz Nickel

They've been on the car about 6 years so I thought I'd have them refurbed this winter.

I admit they only half did the job - sending them back with new valves etc but with a damaged lock ring, missing stickers on the valve adjusters so you didn't know which was + or - and they didn't replace the end bushes.
When I complained they sent me a new lock ring, stickers and bushes. I work for an engineering company so getting the bushes pressed in isn't a problem.

They feel massively improved. I think I've now finished tweaking the rebound and the car handles like a go cart.
I have updated springs. 400lb front and 375llb rear.

I'd say they are good value, but I've never been able to see why I need to spend more than a grand on shocks.

Can't comment on Protech but I've had GAZ Gold Pros on mine for a few years that transformed the car when I fitted them. Full geom and alignment check every year and no signs of any problem so far. Surprised the Nitrons are beyond repair. For the price I'd expect a longer lifespan than you're experiencing.

I'd speak to guy at Nitron direct. We had them for 40k+ with no issues and then rebuilt as one of the springs broke, so upgraded to Eibach springs.
I've seen Protechs sheer (relatively new - Barreti and myself changed them at Chatsworth) and still have squeeky Gaz's even after they have been replaced so pays your money takes your choice. Nitrons still IMO worth the extra spend. Poor suspension = part staisfaction, good suspension setup = happy driver.

Why can,t they be rebuilt, I had the rear ones on my Cerbera basically rebuilt completely, the rods where bent and so much wrong with them it cost £480 ish just for the two eek
