they take about 6 ltrs to fill inc filter.. you may want to order 7 so you've got some to top up...

On pre-cats you may need to prime the pump... take the dizzy out and run the pump with some extension to get it back in there wink
Just be as quick as you can... smile

It is true with the pre serp that when changing the filter if you have a few cups of tea before getting the new filter on the pump can loose all its oil and refuse to prime. I have changed many though and never experienced it.

Just get the new filter with as much new oil in it as possible, on straight away and get the engine fired up straight away.

Like TVR Beaver states you can on the pre serp get an oil pump primer tool. You take the dizzy out and place it on the end of the oil pump drive. the other end in a drill and then whizz it up on the drill until pressure is achieved and oil is all around the engine. I got mine off ebay, although i have just looked and cant see any now. You could always make one you just need the oil pump drive off the end of a dizzy welded to a metal rod. They are a really good idea for circulating oil prior to firing the engine up say after a rebuild or if the engine has been stood for some time.

No need on a pre serp/pre cat. Just put oil on the filter, swap the filter and drain the sump. Fill and restart engine. As long as you dont take hours to do it.
Do the same on the 500 - never any issues.

I put oil in the new filter, unscrew the old one and put the new filter on straight away. Then drain sump and replace copper washer on sump plug. Insert sump plug, fill with oil and start engine, hopefully no leaks. Top up as required.
