The DVLA have now confirmed my number plate transfer so I thought I would fit the new plates tonight.
5 minute job, or so I thought!

The old plates come of no problem but the adhesive tape left on the car is a pain to remove. The stuff I have used previously just peals off but this is like a white foamy type tape that just breaks up and leaves a hyper sticky gummy residue. I have tried a light solvent and solvent wipes but it won't shift it. Even tried scraping with an old credit card but that is only removing it very slowly. Did not want to use anything too strong I case I damage the paint.

Any suggestions on what to use to remove it? Others must have faced the same issue.

Cheers
Brian

Ditto this method. White spirit will not harm the paintwork but will soften the glues. Dad on with a cloth soaked in white spirit, leave a while to soften, rub of with the white spirit cloth. Repeat this until all removed. Clean up with soapy water afterwards. At work we would use a material called panel wipe, especially for this purpose, but ordinary white spirit will eventually do the job. Rgds, Pete

Do not use petrol or other solvents as it may harm your paint finish, there was a guy with a Griff on here a few months back who overfilled his tank with fuel and it overflowed down the boot rainwater channel stripping his paint off the rear of his car.

I always use products such as Jelsol by Autosmart it is specifically designed for removing glue residue when de-stickering vans, tar spots etc that will do the job without harming your paint.
