I once owned a 1999 Chim 400 which I bought as a six month old dealer demo complete with a sports exhaust and the car made some great noises on overrun and on hard acceleration. Not sure what exhaust was fitted though.

The Griff 500 SE that I have recently purchased seems quiet by comparison and I have been thinking about a sports exhaust conversion. Did any SE cars leave the factory with sports exhausts fitted?

I have seen the conversion to replace the baffled pipes in the silencer box with straight through pipe. Any opinions on this? I don't want it to loud but just want it to be a little more characterful than current.

Thanks in advance for any insights on this one

Cheers

Brian

There are lots of different combinations with different sounds and loud levels. You need to listen and pick something you'd be happy with.

The ACT cherry bomb (sports exhaust)makes a great sound without being too loud. Works well for me.

When I bought my Griff it was sleeved and the sound was amazing. (You might've seen the vid on Youtube!) Due to registration in Sweden I had to fit a silencer again and It's been too quiet for too long.. So I was thinking I'd get myself a new exhaust system. Got CliveF Y-piece fitted, but still a bit quiet me thinks.

I've been in contact with ACT about their Cherry Bomb exhaust. But is it alot quieter then a sleeved exhaust? I certainly don't want that!

But a very different sound. It's more bassy and growling than a sleeved exhaust.

Thanks for the insights. I really don't want to replace the system but will consider the RG solution to put straight through sections in the silencer box. Is that what people mean by a 'sleeved' system?

I'm down at RG next week and they have a couple of cars with the conversion so I can have a listen and decide if I do it or keep as is.

Cheers

I love the sound of sports exhausts one word of warning though if you plan on taking it on a track most are limited to 105db and some like good wood only 100db. A standard exhaust is just below 100. An alternative to stay around 100db is to bin the cats. Better exhaust gas flow as well. That's what I have done.
