I am looking for the wiring for the variable speed fan, not the earlier fixed speed one in the SH bible. Can anyone help?

Fixed speed heater fan?

Are you sure you aren't confusing Heater with Cooling Fan?
I have an early Griffith and my heater fan is 3 speed.

The bible has wiring for 3 fixed speeds. Mine has a black box that gives fully variable between min and max. The wiring colours are different and I want to do a bit of trouble shooting to see where my problem is. If I knew what colours did what then I could get a multimeter on the job. Ian

What is the problem? Heater fan not working or only working on some speeds?
There is a hole in the inner wing you can poke your finger into - but don't do it with the fan switched on in case it fires into life. It'll sting a bit having your fingers inside that fan if you free it up by prodding it hehe

The problem is likely to be the plug connector for the fan which is underneath the headlight.
I've previously posted pictures of it but don't have access to my photos while at work.

The heater fan did work then stopped. The fuse is ok but the yellow wire at the variable speed unit was burnt out (known problem from web searches). I have fixed that but it still does not work. What I would like to do now is simple trouble shooting to find out if its the fan or the controller. If I understood the wiring then I could use a multimeter or put 12v onto the fan motor as a first diagnostic step. Without knowing what the 8 wires in & out of the controller are supposed to do its a bit difficult, hence my plea for a diagram. I know that accessing the motor is a b@tch of a job so i'd like to be sure before starting. Not many replies so I guess no-one knows.

Just identify the motor wires, as you already said you found one burned, unplug them and put power to them.
chances are though ,the controller has failed.....

You can't apply power to the fan connections at the ECU. These are both negative, one in and one out. The ECU controls the fan speed buy pulsing the negative.
You need to access the fan electrical connector in the passenger footwell.
It is a 2 spade type connector between the battery box and the inner wing.
Apply 12v here and see if the fan runs. It should run at full speed. If not, it is faulty.
There is an access panel on these later Griffs to acces the fan in the wing from the passenger footwell , where the connector is.
If the fan runs then unfortunately the ECU has probably had it. Very expensive and hard to get hold of.
Good luck.
