On a couple of other threads I have talked about the 'incident' that is leading to a repaint, as well as a thread on painting it red versus yellow...

Now another topic.

With a full repaint I am looking at doing a tidy up of the engine bay. I have seen many photos of cars that are body colour right up to the heat shields, however my 1994 as a sort of black paint in that region.
What is right? Did it differ from car to car?

Also, if I do paint that area I am able to drill out the rivets on the main information plate, but there are a couple of stickers. I would be a bit surprised if there is a source of replacement stickers, but fingers crossed thought I should ask - anyone know of a source?

Cheers,

Rob.

What colour are the stickers and are yours in a good enough shape to photograph and reproduce?

I might have a source. It depends.

Ian, if you do manage to reproduce the sticker(s) in the engine compartment then I would be interested in two sets and perhaps a third for spare. Pete

One is silver foil type sticker, the other white as I recall. Will try to take photos tomorrow.

There were a couple of ex factory chaps at the Growl selling obsolete tvr parts and I think that was their business name from memory. They might well be able to supply the stickers you need as I was asking them about some for mine. They didn't have a pre-cat e mark approval sticker(the long chrome type with blue writing) that I wanted but even then they said they could get some reproduced.
Your underbonnet colour should be satin black finish as original by the way,oh and another vote for the original yellow here biggrin

If you find a source of pre-cat engine bay stickers I'd be interested in some too.

On another note, does anyone know the paint code for the satin black in the engine bay?

The foil type might be a problem but i think I know the stickers you are talking about and will ask my mate about them.

Would you need the original sticker or would pictures do? These are the ones in my pre-cat:

Although you can see this one isn't much use for reproduction:

Is it just these two?

These are the only two mine has. The rest is on metal plates riveted into the fibreglass.

So, not great photos - but here are the ones mine has...

position of stickers...

top sticker...

next...

bottom...

And to be complete there is a sticker on the brake fluid bottle as well...

There are two others, but they are plates, and just need to be removed during painting, and replaced later.

I would assume these are best recreated, rather than attempting to use the photo image. Just a matter of measuring them up, finding the right font and point size, getting colour of print correct, and the base material (foil / white plastic).

If originals are out there, that certainly would be my first choice.

The brake bottle sticker on the other hand may be a common sticker amongst many cars, so may be easier to source. Also, I can pretty much leave it alone anyway.

Cheers.

But it does show us that the text on these stickers will have changed over the years. Perhaps we will need people to type out the contents of theirs to cover the different types. Yours has lots of gaps, but perhaps someone has a complete one that matches up with the variant and age of your car.

I've seen the Type Approval sticker before but not the other two

I would suggest the Tune up Information sticker is not original. Especially as the word Clearence is spelled incorrectly.

What is the big silver one telling us. I can make it out on this tablet thingamajig

I have approached a number of people for these two stickers - type approval and the silver and blue ones and a guy in Ireland was supposed to be sending me samples but its all gone quiet. I will chase him up next week and post up but don't hold out much hope. There were about 10 people interested in a group buy.

I suspect the tune up sticker is specific to the Canadian cars. May be a government regulation. Good catch on the spelling - I never even caught that.

I will check with TVR North America on the way to work tomorrow

I can recreate these no problem. I just either need an original to go by or someone willing to measure all the dimensions and spacing to get the copies totally correct.

When I did my engine bay the stickers peeled off almost intact and I've scanned them attached to a sheet of paper. The scan doesnt work well due to reflection. If anyone can suggest a better way of copying them to a digital file without reflection they could be used as a template? These are from a late '94 Griff - dont know if they vary from year to year?

Hi guys you can get those stickers from Surface and Design in Blackpool.

That's were Mike from Obsolete TVR (who was at the Growl) works.

They reproduced mine after my recent repair work. I can post pictures if required. I also had a different sticker on mine that they hadn't seen before, possibly as it had been abroad for a couple of years in it'; early life.
