Hi Guys,

What colour should the exhaust manifolds have been on my pre-cat when it left the factory? They are now a nice surface rusty brown.

The exhaust is blowing and wasn't cured by tightening the bolts so I'm thinking of removing the exhaust manifolds to change the gaskets. I was thinking that whilst they are off the car I could send them to Zicotec and have them coated. This should reduce underbonnet temps as well as making them look much tidier. But I need to choose a colour and would like to keep close to the original.

Cheers,

Simon

Its a medium grey exhaust paint, came off pretty quickly as well apparently. I am looking at a picture of FFG's press car and the other one, J524 MHG used for road tests. They are the same.

Excellent! Zircotec have three colours that might suit. Would you say it's:
Warm Grey

Graphite

Sterling Silver

Its definitely not the warm or the silver one. Unfortunately, the picture server is playing up on pistonheads and I can't see the graphite one, but I think that sounds the best. I will have a look later, hopefully I can see the image then.

Ahh. the image opens for a few seconds and then closes but Graphite is pretty good, by far the best of the three you posted.

Have you contacted them for the cost as I think you'll be surpised. Agree that graphite looks good as they'll end up that colour anyway.

Very iirc. Chances are your manifold will crack soon anyway if they haven't already

Just to let you know - Zertec coatings are quite expensive - but they last, and very well from my experience.

Also, if you are able to drop them off in person - you might get to see them applying the coatings in person. Plasma jets are much more interesting than spray paints....

You're looking at around £800 (+VAT and shipping) for the manifolds and the Y piece.

Alternative is to paint them, but you must use high temp/high quality paint.

Stokes of sheffield for the paint about £40.00 for 5ltrs

Heres a link, have a read.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was worried about the paint deteriorating rapidly in the high temps and falling off like the original stuff. How does yours look now after a year of use?

3 years on and still looks excellent.

I have touched up where required every year during winter when the car is sorned.

Usually just at the point where the manifold/cylinder head meet.

This is the hottest point on the manifold/exhaust.

I painted the whole of the exhaust system 3+ years ago and that is as good as new with no touch ups required at all.

It really is excellent paint and nothing like the usual "high temp spray cans" from Halfrauds or similar.
