I have the early type diff on my 500 and want to change the oil, does anyone know if it needs to be filled to the bottom of the hole or should it be a certain amount down?

I fill it up till the fluid flows out of the hole.

I actually put the car on ramps so that the back is slightly higher (thus get a little bit more in - ooerr).

I fill via a long pipe with funnel on the end raised 4/5ft in the air. Warm the diff oil first in a bucket of hot water. Make sure the oil really is 'overflowing' not just seeping down the nozzle you fill with - its very 'sticky' stuff. Takes a while (like all good things:-) but its a nice lazy way to do it (& cleaner) + you can go do something else if you want.

I did the gearbox yesterday, bit messy but managed ok, guessed it would be the same sort of thing.
