Guys looked at video online but for the life of me can't find the fill plug? I have a gkn differential with fins on a 1996. Can anyone help me? Have car jacked drivers rear wheel off.

Although you think it's a GKN could it possibly be a Salisbury? Mine was on this year car and they look pretty much the same except the filler plug is right at the top at the back from memory. A right git to get to because of chassis tubes we used a ring spanner and a hex bit to undo it.

If it is a GKN the filler plug on mine is on the drivers (right) side in the side of the alloy rear cover - I get to it through the rear wheel arch and on mine it uses a 3/8th square socket drive to undo the plug. I use 2 or 3 extension bars so the socket wrench is almost outside the wheel arch then when the plug suddenly releases you dont smash knuckles etc against the suspension arms/chassis tubes

Found it. mine it in a pig of spot on the rear of the different just where the exhaust splits. There's clearly no room for a 1/2 inch bar in easily.... Job for the garage job or special tool to get to it. Saw someone has taken fuel tank out the left a whole through boot! Bit to much for me unless anyone has any other ideas?

I used a bit of square bar in the plug then an open-ended spanner through the small gap next to a chassis tube; it was a sod but loaded with copper grease and a bit of ptf tape for easy removal next time.

Good suggestion from John. Maybe not an option for you but if you drop the exhaust system there is a lot more room.

If you intend more maintenance on other vehicles a filler plug removal set (10 sizes both square and Hex.) is a useful tool:

At £10 saves a lot of messing about.

Best of luck

No I didn't as I can't get the ring spanner in the gap. You were correct as well by the way as I must have the Salisbury version. Out of interest is that different to the gkn as the garage said it was a gkn when they refurbished?
