Guys anyone know what the best replacement is for Toyo 245/45/ZR16....spoke to a couple of suppliers and all saying this is an obsolete size now??

Any recommendations?

It's not an 'obsolete' size, as this site demonstrates http://www.123pneus.fr/cgi-bin/rshop.pl

Thanks guys ordered two from my tyres who have only 8 now 6 in stock. All other sites when you try to order are out of stock. Speaking with them they claim the Toyos have stopped doing this size???

Marks' (mcosh) order has been cancelled as none in stock.

These tyres will not be available until October (as confirmed by Toyo UK) even though wholesalers like Micheldever (supply Pro tyre etc) have 'delivery due Septemeber'.

Toyo have only supplied 2 tyres at a time aside from Michledever ie on a demand 'now' basis meaning there is no 'stock' held anywhere in the UK.....

Interestingly, unless you go for R888 (currently £135 thru Camskill....) or the Porsche Continentals/Bridgestones which are also semi track tyres there are NO other makes available in this size!!

Happy to be corrected if anyone knows of a secret supply....(just helping a mate who's not online at the mo')

Paul.

Can't help with the secret supply, but have been running 888s on mine since start of the year.
Not as bad in the wet as I anticipated - awesome in damp/ dry conditions smile

Doc, do they stop OK in wet? I'm happy to consider the triples as I only try to run out in dry weather, however for our trips to Europe I'm happy to take it steady but could do with reassurance on stopping if it does rain??....any noticeable difference?? and have you got them all round car? quote=Doc Toad]Can't help with the secret supply, but have been running 888s on mine since start of the year.

888s are a dry weather tyre. Try R1Rs for a more all around tyre with awesome dry grip

Only issue with the 888 is with lots of standing water. Coming back down the M6 on Sunday got caught in a torrential downpour - twitchy at 70, dropped to 60 and all was well. It was so bad that most traffic was down to 60 - the brave souls that were doing over that were chucking up huge amounts of spray!

In ' normal ' rain they're only as bad as a well worn regular tyre (imho). Stopping distance when its really wet is probably down to individual driver - I just leave a lot of extra room!.

I'm up in the Lake District so probably do as many wet miles as dry frown

I seriously considered those but the majority of the reviews although mostly positive complained of excessive road noise. I didn't think it was a good idea in an open car that's already noisy to potentially add to it as I know it can become wearing over long periods.

Has anyone tried them?

ETAAnswering the original question I recently got a pair of 245/45/16" from from www.mytres.co.uk but they now seem to have sold out as well.

My Griff was fitted from factory with 235/50x16 ('94) and I still have this size on now.

MyTyres currently show these in stock in Toyo T1R - might be worth considering???? Unless as Mcosh's experience the stock evaporates the moment an order is placed to be replaced with an unacceptable delivery time.

I've never used 245/45's so dont know what, if any, difference the average driver would notice?

They're one of those things that once you've had them on they do feel different. They look good as well biggrin

All the V pattern tyres are a bit noisy so I can`t see them being any different to the T1R`s..

My next tyres for the road will be Falken 453`s, just going to get used to the new tread pattern.

Ah OK, I don't find the T1R's that noisy. Anyway done now so hopefully no worries for a while.

My Griff still has SO2's on the back in 245/45 zr16; I hear that some run 225/50 zr16 Toyo T1R, any comments? Are these available?
