GSI rear lights.
Discussion
Hi All,
I have recently changed the number plate on my Griff and also the rear lights. I know many people like the originals but I wanted a more up to date look so opted for the GSI lights.
Here is the old:

Side by side:

All done except sealant:

What sealant is used for around the lights? Its the black stuff that I need so if anyone knows what is good I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

They look good, where did you get them?
The black stuff is Sikaflex, just watch what your doing as its messy stuff.
Ebay, I have been looking for a while under "cavalier GSI rear lights". They dont come up often and sometimes only for silly money. I bought these for £25+postage for the pair. The black stuff is Sikaflex, just watch what your doing as its messy stuff.
They are a git to fit though. Its hard to cut away the existing sealant, then you have to cut away about 5mm around the inner edge of the lights (you cannot see this bit) to make them sit flush. I am really happy with the result though.
I steered clear of using sealant when refitting my lights after the respray. Actually made up some gaskets from neoprene foam as used in the automotive industry, much easier to seal and lights can be removed without the danger of damaging paintwork etc. We use this sort of foam all the time at work in our vehicles. Regards, Pete

Sounds like a good idea. I will need to use sealant though to cover the marks left by the old sealant. G5FTH said:
I just thought they were GSI lights but fair enough. I like the look anyway.
Fraid not, I spent 20 years as a vauxhall tech up to 2002,and no cav GSI ever had anything like those fitted, pasco used to have a similar set on his Griff but they are Lexus style units .....but if you like them, that's all that counts
On my front lights I use Tiger Seal. I've never had to remove my back lights though.

Tiger seal, Sikka Flex and Teroson all make flexible automotive type sealants. All will do the job satisfactorily. The only issues that will crop up is when you have to remove any parts that have been sealed. Both Sikka Flex and Teroson are extensively used within the specialist automotive industry. Hope that rambling is helpful, PeteThis stuff

I have these.. the car came with them.. when the car was re-sprayed I was going to put the orig ones back in.. but on a red car they just looked bland.. I also tried the tinted GSI units but they too didn't look at good.. so I re-fit the originals.. I think they look okay.. I've also changed the front spots to match

Shouldn't that picture be on the bad parking thread

Each to their own, and no offense intended, but I think both the examples in this thread are horrible and I appreciate that's because anything other then the originals look different but for some reason TVR Beaver's lights make me think of spectacles

Ha ha

specsEach to their own, although I would've stuck on the number plates to give it a "cleaner" look rather then using screws. Did they come out of the factory stuck on?
Put red lights into a red car and they look very poor... totally lost the look of the rear end..as I say I tried everything and to me, these were the best... TBH it does look better in real life.. the picture does exaggerate them a tad...
You'd defo not like what I've done to the front then
Yes.. plates screwed on.. so you can replace the bulbs behind the plate when they go

They do look good with the dark coloured car though!
