Clutch Master Cylinder
Discussion
Mt 92 Precat just had its 60k service. Peninsula did say that they noticed some moisture around the clutch master cylinder but that it looked ok and didnt seem to be leaking and didnt need replacing (could have just been condensation), but they said to keep an eye on it. Sure enough, 200 miles later and the clutch is really springy and fluid is leaking down the back of the carpets and down the pedal. Typical
I should have just told them to replace it anyway.
I'm not going to bother with seal kit as a new one is only about £45. My question is, are they easy to fit? I have mkI bible at home, is there much info in there on replacing it?
Cheers.

Both. Covered in more detail in the second edition. Footwell to disconnect from the pedal. Under bonnet and clutch cover to chnage unit. Fiddly more than anything. Be aware of the changing hydraulic pipe fitting. Some replacements are not as exact and have different fittings which means changing the fitting/pipe in situ... Not fun.

The problem is that they tend to fail by scoring the inside of the cylinder. Re sealing is only a good option if the bores etc are in good condition. The normal failure is for the bore to get scored in which case re-sealing will help but it simply puts off the inevitable.
I normally replace the first time, get the old one out then check it over and reseal if OK and keep as a spare.
