T 5 Gear Box Oil Leak

Any one have an idea where these boxes usually leak from ?

rear oil seal... or front oil seal.. although it could come out the top if it's not sealed right... where are the drips appearing... can you tell if it's front or back??

My leaking gearbox wasnt a leaking gearboz at all!! Rear head/rockers/Valley and crank can all leak down the back of the engine and make it look like a gearbox leak - unless its obvious dont assume its the gearbox.

Was wondering if these boxes are prone to leaks . Bit frustrating as it's difficult to tell where it's leaking from. I had the sump off a few months ago and re sealed it, as it was leaking quite badly, but pretty sure this is gear oil and not Mobil 1.

Will lay some cardboard under it tonight to see if I can pin point it.

That will only show you where it's dripping from, not where it's leaking. You need to clean the box and rear of the engine (Gunk or summat) so that you can see where the oil trail starts.

You take of the fill plug on the gearbox and if its not full likely to be leaking, unless of course it wasn't full to start with

what does the oil smell like... you can tell ATF or gearbox oil over engine oil.. also it should be clear where as engine oil will have some deposits?

Good test. ATF oil in the T5 should be clear with clear drips. Engine oil drips will have dark deposits in it.
