Looking to replace my air filter.
Griff 500 94 but it has the cylinder type filter, not the rectangle.
The induction has seemed to be get louder over time even with cleaning the filter.
A good stab at the throttle pedal and there is a big difference to others I've compared to. A really loud air rush noise.
I also get the feeling it's being starved of air at high revs, can't be sure as it's just a gut feeling.
Was thinking of disconnecting the filter and giving it a quick blast to see if I could notice any difference but knowing my luck it'll suck up something and cause damage.

Price of a new one is minimal so the question is, Pipercross or K & N?

I have the ACT smooth bore pipes from filter to AFM and AFM to Plenum.

Not sure what you mean by "induction getting louder"? As for filter definitely k&n. Not worth the risk driving without. Just put a new one on. If you still have issues it won't be the filter!

I've also got a K&N round filter on my 4.3
Had it a few years now and I've also got the recharge kit for it so I can clean it when I like.

You really need to find that induction noise though. with the location of the filter I doubt you can hear the air being sucked in through that so its likely to be a leak somewhere. If you hadn't said you have the ACT kit I'd have pointed you there but its worth checking anyway.

Time to get the garage door open and get your head under the bonnet !

Looks like I'll get a K & N.
I'll also try and get a video of the noise to post up. That's if I can instruct my "camera girl" to be under the bonnet biggrin

Do you have the fibreglass shroud cover thing fitted that goes over the air filter.
I did away with mine as it was so close to the filter i think it did more harm than good. When i did away with it though i developed an induction noise which can be clearly heard at tickover. Cant hear it once on the move though.

Yes, that shroud has been removed.
I only hear the noise when stabbing the throttle at idle. Tried another Griff with the same stabbing motion and mine is defiantly louder.
At a meet Thursday night so I'll see if someone there can capture the noise.

Ordered a new K & N anyway. biggrin

You can when your listening device is at the front of the car, this "link" gives an indication of just how much air the engine takes in.

Hmmm. Changed the filter to K & N and the noise is still there (which is quite like)but it seems to have more power at high revs.
May be just the placebo effect.
pipercross
K&N

Doesn't help that I had help filming under the bonnet with the old Pipercross and I had to do it on my own while out testing the K & N!

The old filter was a mess. I have no idea how air got through it.

I went for two air filters and they saved my engine in a flood because of the higher position .

Where does that fit in under the bonnet? I could only just squeeze the one in up in front of the rad!
