Hi All,
A blown 100amp fuse left me stranded on a pitch black country road last week. Jacked the car up to replace it and then snapped one of the terminals in the fuse housing. Then I found that the two screws that bolt the housing to the chassis were rusted and would not budge even after a 24hr soak in WD40. Ended up grinding them off today with a Dremel. All is well now... new housing in place and up-rated the fuse to 125 amps as advised by Racing Green.

Gotta luv TVR for placing this where they did. I do carry spare fuses but it is rather pointless if you cant get to it to change.

Has anyone moved this fuse to a location that you can actually get to through the bonnet? If so, where did you put it?

Cheers
Brian

I haven't but I would be interested to know where you put it. I was planning to move the fuse box and the ECU to a space, perhaps behind the passenger seat, it would seem to make sense to put the 100 Amp fuse in the same place, however this would mean running a thick cable back from the battery and then forward again - not such a good idea.

Under the bonnet sounds like a good place, perhaps two rivnuts through the inner wing close to the master cylinders and then run the cable down to the starter motor, does that work?

Are you sure you want to upgrade to 125 Amp, this guy doesn't think you should....

Not sure who the seller is but I am happy to go with a recommendation from Racing Green. I bought my car from them and they have looked after me well including sending me a new fuse and fuse holder.

Re the location, it will be under the bonnet somewhere, just not sure where yet. What I do know is that it will end up somewhere where you can change the fuse while remaining on your feet idea

Why move the fuse box behind the drivers seat. Seams like a lot of work for little gain?

Brian, I've given up on that idea. I was going to do the same as you with regards to the 100 Amp Fuse and am interested to see what conclusions you come to. Whilst I am at it I was going to try and minimise runs and beef up the cable to minimise any losses.

I do want to move the fuse box and the ECU from the footwell to a more logical, accessible place and fix them as well, rather than having the ECU loosely lying on the battery...! Behind the passenger seat seems like a sensible option right now.

I am currently abroad and return to the UK on 27th December. I am planning to start stripping down the turquoise Griff then and will get a better idea of where I could locate that 100 Amp Fuse. Very happy to compare notes as I am looking for ideas, particularly sensible mods to carry out whilst I am rebuilding the car. I am assuming you are not planning to move you fuse immediately. Pete

Hi
I have moved the battery behind the drivers seat by using a racing one and the fusebox is going behind the passinger's seat as there is enough cable to reach without having to extend it. As for the fuse to the starter that will be put near the battery for easy access.

Hi Steve,
The fuse sits between the starter motor and the back of the alternator alternator so I guess it protects against alternator malfunction only?

if you have a wiring fault before the ignition switch, it will blow that fuse as it is a constant live form the battery....so keep it, but make it accessible on top of the engine as stated, by the alternator

Strange how the fuse breaks, I guess due to vibration so I have put a dab of silicon around mine.

Another vote for the silicone treatment... I went through several in short order, none at all since encasing in rtv
