I know it's a battery but what does it do. I have just taken out my dash to build a new lighter one and found this battery. It dropped out when I removed the dash and I cannot find any wires that would have been attached to it so hope it's redundant. Alarm or immobiliser? Has anyone seen one in their car.

Check on the rear of the speedo ??
Is it a small watch kind of battery?

Hi ant. Thanks. There is no small battery attached to the speedo so this might well be it. It's quite a big battery though. 3 inches long and weighs half a kilo which is great because its joining lots of other stuff in the skip in my search for less weight.

It looks like the type of battery used in older home security systems as a backup in the case of mains failure. Not sure what it's doing in your car I can only think it is/was linked to an alarm system but they are usually integrated.

That's a bit of a random thing to find. I've never seen anything like that in a Griff (or Chim for that matter) before. I wonder if a previous owner had an idea about fitting an alarm keep-alive circuit?

No clue either, can't read the battery spec, have you tried googling it see if it's usual use gets listed?

I recognise this battery; it is used in alarm systems and emergency lighting units, have also seen a similar type on mowers with electric start! My guess is (like other post) that a previous owner had an idea about a live alarm when main battery disconnected?

Simon, next you'll be telling me that my plan to fill the chassis with hydrogen is a bad idea.

Ant. That's it. I ran through the paperwork and I have found an old tracker agreement from 95. Thanks

Jes,

If you are building a new light weight dash, will you be retaining the original one?? Although I'm an S owner, currently helping a friend refurbish his Griff dash and the warning light/dash light plastic strip has seen better days and he is on the hunt for a replacement before he gets the dash re-veneered.

The quest for speed is endless.

Happy new year.

Hi. I am keeping the strip with the lights - it will just bolt onto the new dash. Sorry. Good luck in the hunt. Jes
