Resigned to the fact now that its going to have to be taken out and sent away but as the car is used daily I'm going to need a replacement. Speedy Cables estimate 15-20 working days.
Any workable ideas?

3rd gear, 2000rpm=30mph.
4th gear, 2000rpm=40mph.

Best I can do, I'm afraid.

Mine did that too at 29,999 miles but the good thing was the speedo kept on working. It free'd itself up without me noticing probly at round 150 miles.

If others have "righted" try tapping it while driving. Mine has given up, but my speedo is has also stopped, so mine will be on my workbench this weekend.

It stopped about 1,000 or so miles ago. I have tried all the suggestions of reversing at speed, tapping it etc etc. with no success. The trip carried on until I reset it.
The speedo still works so it's not too bad. I beleive I need a working one to remain legal. Sods law says I'd get stopped if I tried to risk it.

I tried all those tricks too without success. In the end.. dash out, speedo out, ease off the metal ring (easy does it) to remove plastic front .. then tap the odo - it goes * click * then put it all back. Took about 2 hours & a bit fiddly.. better than 15-20 days though and free

Ed,
Yes I have a bible so will muddle through. The only problem with doing it is I may fix one problem but what else won't work afterwards.
Any tips/hints not in the bible much appreciated.

have small hands (or borrow some) for turning the wing nuts. Dont drop them.

I put some gaffer on the leather where I thought were the mostly likely places to rub during removal of the dash fascia (which is metal).

When bending back the metal bezel on the odo(is that the right word.. terms slipping due to lack of ownership...) it's softer than you think so gently does it. I used the handle end of a teaspon & worked way around slowly. Dont rush! Expect you know you're 500 inch by inch as I did.. so be very careful to avoid causing any little marks!

Did it at the weekend. Now on 30,080 (or was yesterday pm).
I didn't take the bezel off just tapped the casing which seemed to go almost there and then went back again. I then tried tapping the bit that stick out at the back (bottom right) enclosed on a plastic surround which did the trick. Trip also now works.
The dash is very tight in places and Steve Heaths tips are great but when you have the thing covered in polish it is very difficult to get anything to identify where you need to rub it down so it is easier to remove next time.
I found it better to ease the end out by the radio (being very careful as the bits belwo the vents and radio are narrow and would probably break first), tilt the top edge back to then ease it to the left which makes getting the larger dials side out easier. An extra pair of hands is also useful.
Whole job took around 3.5 hours start to finish.
The only thing that doesn't work is the green light to show the indicators are on but the light still works on the main panel so not too bothered. I'll do it when I need to do the same job again at 39,999.5.
Thanks for all the help. Biggest thing is having the confidence.
